I just read this story on Fox News.
Since Jan. 28, the Quadrangle Recreational Athletic Center has been open only to women from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Mondays.
The change was prompted by a request from the Harvard College Women’s Center, which was approached by six female Muslim students, said Robert Mitchell, communications director of Harvard’s Faculty of Arts and Sciences.
“It was done for religious purposes, but it’s not closed to other women who may want to participate,” he said.
What is wrong with this country? Why do Muslim women, and Muslim people in general get preferential treatment in this country? You don’t like the rules that are already in place then too bad. People in the United States need to grow a pair and stand up for themselves. Don’t allow 6 people to change rules for a whole University. That is just ridiculous.
They are fighting like crazy to keep the words “…under God…” in the Pledge of Allegiance, but they will roll over on things that might actually affect people. Is it that they are scared of Muslims and not afraid of Atheists?
Who is to blame for this? All of the people who file lawsuits for stupid ass things. People are so scared to be sued now that they will break their backs bending over to make everyone happy.
Ibrahim Hooper, a spokesman for the Council on American-Islamic Relations, in Washington D.C., said modesty may prevent some Muslim women from exercising in a co-ed environment.
So? That is THEIR problem. Maybe big fat hairy guys have the same problem. Would you change your rules if a big fat hairy Christian male wanted to have a male only time for the gym? The answer is no.
I don’t think I’m being racist in saying this. I’m not putting anyone’s beliefs down. I don’t care if this was a Christian thing, a Jewish thing, a Muslim thing, or any other kind of thing. Not being any of those it just angers me that we have to try and accommodate everyone. You can’t please everyone all the time. Someone is always going to be unhappy and you can’t change that.
Here is an opinion piece on the subject.
What do you think?

It’s one of those things where if you give one group that treatment, it opens the floodgates for everyone wanting their own way. Either do it for everyone or no one.
Exactly. I think you summed up my blog in 2 sentences.
I don’t think it’s fair at all. This is a country that has so many different beliefs that to cater to just one groups is a little ridiculous… I know for a fact that there are places that are religiously owned. I think that’s the way I want to put it. Like a place that pretty much only caters to clients with a specific belief. This goes for all kinds of businesses. If you want to be treated a certain way, then go to a place tha specializes in that.
I totally don’t know if that makes sense, but I can’t seem to get the words out right…
I know what you’re saying. That is exatly what these people should do.
A whole school shouldn’t change because of 8 people. That is just retarded.
You’re exactly right. We should stop bending over as a country and say if you don’t like it then get the fuck out and go back to where they treat your asses like property and mutilate you.
I think it’s a very well said and simply put blog..
Too bad more people don’t follow it.
I’m not saying go back to where you came from, I’m sure these 8 women are from the USA. I’m saying, don’t expect everyone to change for you. Have some self accountability. (spelling?)
If I don’t like something I deal with it. I don’t cry about it and try to make it go my way.
